Anointing of the Sick
Effects of the Sacrament
The Anointing of the Sick, instituted by Christ our Lord, is a true and proper sacrament of the New Testament. It conveys several graces and imparts gifts of strengthening in the Holy Spirit, offering peace and fortitude against anxiety, discouragement, and temptation.
Union with Christ's Passion: It unites the sick person to the passion of Christ, for their own good and that of the whole Church.
Strength and Courage: It provides strengthening, peace, and courage to endure the sufferings of illness or old age in a Christian manner.
Forgiveness of Sins: It offers the forgiveness of sins if the sick person was not able to obtain it through the Sacrament of Penance.
Restoration of Health: It can lead to the restoration of health if it is conducive to the salvation of the soul.
Preparation for Eternal Life: It serves as preparation for passing over into eternal Life.
