Our History
Parish History
Founded in 1852 to serve York’s German-speaking Catholics, St. Mary’s Church has grown through generations of dedicated pastors, diverse ministries, and significant renovations to become a vibrant, multicultural parish at the heart of the community.

Pipe Organ
St. Mary’s Church is home to a magnificent pipe organ, lovingly preserved and updated since 1885, which enriches parish liturgies and reflects the Church’s tradition of elevating hearts to God through sacred music.

Henwood Murals
Commissioned in 1921 during the church’s interior renovation, Frederick de Henwood’s fourteen ceiling murals at St. Mary’s Church beautifully depict the life of the Blessed Virgin Mary, serving as an inspiring catechism in paint and stone for parishioners and visitors alike.
