Understanding the Seven Sacraments of the Catholic Church
The seven Sacraments of the Catholic Church are vital components of our Faith, seen as rites in which God is uniquely active. As Augustine of Hippo defined, a Christian Sacrament is "a visible sign of an invisible reality." These Sacraments, instituted by Jesus Christ, are directly linked to Sacred Scripture and have developed over time into their current form through Sacred Tradition. The Sacraments are categorized into three groups.
Sacraments of Initiation
These sacraments mark the initiation of an individual as a Roman Catholic.
Sacraments of Healing
These are focused on the healing and redemption of one's soul.
Sacraments of Service
These sacraments illustrate and empower recipients to serve the Church in various functions.
